How to choose a projector for presentations

A projector is a multimedia equipment that projects images and video content onto a freestanding screen or any other flat, light-colored surface. Video and photo content comes in digital format from an external source: PC, Blu-ray player, camera, flash drive, hard disk, etc. Devices of this type are indispensable for various presentation events. But the wide variety of models makes it difficult to choose the right equipment. Within the framework of this article, we will consider how to choose a projector for presentations.

What you need to consider when choosing

To choose the right device, you should take into account a number of parameters:

    • The type of screen plane.

.

    • The requirements for the place of installation.

.

  • The format of the image to be reproduced.
  • Properties of the surface to display the picture.

Also do not forget about the characteristics of the projector itself. Among the main ones are:

Brightness (of the screen and luminous flux)

.
The brightness of the screen is its maximum specific luminosity. This value is measured in nits (nit): 1 nit=1 cd/m? (candela per m2). The greater the value, the brighter the image.

Measurement of the brightness of the light flux is carried out in ANSI lumens. Modern DLP and LCD devices are available with different brightness:

  • 800 lumens – suitable for use in a darkened room;
  • 1000 lumens – for use in halls with a small amount of light;
  • 2000 lumens – for presentations in daylight conditions (in bright light).

Lamp type

.
UHP (Ultra High Pressure) lamps provide an intense light output. A more powerful and natural flow is created with xenon arc lamps. LED lamps are the most commonly used because they combine small size, low power consumption, and long life. There are also Laser-LED (laser-LED) light sources.

Resolution

.
The higher this indicator, the better and more natural the projected image will look. It is measured in pixels (px). Each projector has its own resolution, which is usually informed by the aspect ratio:

  • VGA (640 x 480 px);
  • SVGA (800 x 600 px);
  • XGA (1024 x 768 px);
  • WXGA (1366 x 768 px);
  • SXGA (1280 x 1024 px);
  • Full HD (1920?1080 px);
  • HD 4K (4096?2400 px).

Focal distance

.
This refers to the distance from the optical center of the lens to its focal plane. The focal length determines the angle of view of the lens: the smaller the focal length, the greater the angle of view. All lenses, depending on the value of the focal length, can be divided into:

  • Wide-angle. Most often equipped with lightweight projectors for mobile presentations.
  • Long focal. They are used if the projector is at a great distance from the screen.

Application options

For office environments.

As a rule, the device will be used to demonstrate static slides, which means that all details must be clearly visible. The optimal solution is to rent a 3LCD model with a brightness of at least 2000 lumens with image correction function and a sufficient number of ports for connection to external devices.

For educational institutions.

These devices are used to demonstrate graphs and images from interactive whiteboards in front of the audience. The best choice will be a device to which you can connect a DVD player, personal computer or laptop. It is also worth noting that since its operation will be carried out during daylight hours, it is necessary to pay attention to models with a brightness of more than 1500 lumens.

For roadshow presentations.

We recommend choosing portable devices weighing from 1 to 5 kg with a brightness of at least 1000 lumens, with a remote control and wireless communication, which will reduce the preparation time. Wi-Fi in the projector will eliminate the need for an interface cable.

Why is renting more profitable than buying?
Video projection equipment undoubtedly has a lot of advantages, but such equipment is not cheap. And if the need for its use is infrequent, it is not worth buying. The best solution will be to choose in favor of renting a projector.

Do not forget that certain costs are associated with maintenance, storage, transportation of equipment. In addition, your company should have a person on its staff who will be able to competently perform connection and setup. You can entrust the solution of all these issues to our specialists.
